Preliminary report on Sandy Hook Speedway
By Denny Hiddemen
Sandy hook was too small for our class (Modified). Jean, Andy and I went there on Saturday. a bit overcast in the morning but no rain. the track is a "D" shaped oval with a banked sweeping turns 3 and 4 and a tight turn one. Turn two comes off onto the tri oval part. The track was smooth and the program very well run. There were pocket bikes and motorcycles there as well as karts. They run both the oval and road course during he day when the bikes are there. The pits are up at the top of a hill which is a challenge to push up. We left our cars down at the bottom all day and just fiddled with them there. They ran two practices a heat and a feature. The feature is 15 laps. Later in the year they are going to have a 30 lap feature. With three cars on the track it was ok. Andy and I have the same motor and were so closely matched that unless one of us made a mistake you could not get around. The front stretch is about four cars wide with grass on the outsides and hay bails located all around the track. The speed you carry down the front stretch quickly gets dissipated when you have to go hard on the brakes to get around one. There is NO WAY we could run more cars there and not have a total catastrophe in (Turn)one!! Coming off turn one/two you get a really fast run up a slight hill and into the bank. I would guess the banking to be 25 degrees. You flat foot it around the banking and onto the front stretch. Passing would have to be down in this area. I was running 13.67 laps with Andy glued to my tail and visa versa. Jeans car was fast too but she did not have the same motor. We had a very nice, fun time with three cars there. we did not care about the win so we were very clear as to what we were doing in the first turn at the start. I would not want to run with more then four. From our house it was 1:45 to get there. Once again I could not get my in car camera to work. I believe the electrical interference shuts it down.

Note from Microstock News: The track sounds like fun and I would be interested to know if this would be a good Controlled Stock/World Formula type track or if Denny felt that there simply was not enough room for 48" wide cars.
Snydersville
Snydersville Speedway is still the hot bed of Microstock activity with Russell Benke continuing to dominate the Jr. Sportsman division with Aaron Yarosh, Drew Yarosh, Brian Correll and Mysti Gagone winning their races. This Fridays weather is currently calling for more rain during the day but it will clear by early afternoon dropping to an overnight low of about 45 making for yet another great night of racing. Keep tuned to the Snydersville web site for more updated information.
World Formula Modified tour begins their season this weekend at OVRP on May 10th with a minimum of 10 cars expected, a full field of Microstocks should prove to be some fantastic racing.
Even if you cant come out and race, its worth coming by just to watch the action. Will Jim Scherer win 2 in a row? With partly sunny skies and high afternoon temperatures in the low to mid 70's this will be a perfect season opener. Bring the Microstock out and join them. Or at least bring the family and a picnic basket and watch some top notch racing on a fast 1/5th mile dirt oval.
MOM News
By Tom Ervin
Modified Outlaw Micro Stocks will return to Mountain Speedway this Sunday, May 11th for the Mothers Day special event. Pits Open 11:00 am, Grandstands Open 12:00 pm, Practice 12:30 pm, & Heats 2:00 pm. Mountain Speedway has requested that all Micro Stocks run Transponders for this race. (Transponders may be rented at the pit shack when registering for the calss and drawing for a starting position.)
In the April 19th M.O.M. season opener at Mountain Speedway Tom Ervin pulled off a last-to first victory, but it was by no means a run away victory. Andy Hiddemen was the early break-away leader. Nick Cottone ran down Ervin and tried an inside pass before dropping back through the field, while Denny Hiddemen paced himself and was there at the end to take a run at Ervin on the outside during the last lap. Defending M.O.M. Champion Brian Braddock made a strong showing on his first visit to Mountain Speedway and was in contention for the win, as was veteran John Kazmierski. Mike Mee campaigned the lone Controlled Stock powered car, taking the Controlled Stock win and finishing 8th overall still running on the lead lap against the Modifieds. Now that most of the M.O.M. regulars have raced at Mountain Speedway, we expect even stronger runs from cars that have been dialed-in. M.O.M. rules will have Ervin starting last as the previous race winner. Can he get to the front again? ...Not if Cottone, Braddock, Kazmierski, the Hiddemens, the Kreigners, and many others have their way!
Sundays race is again open to all Modified Micro Stocks and Controlled Stock Micro Stocks. There is no club fee to race with M.O.M. Come ut and join the fun!
Note From Microstock News: Sundays Weather is currently calling for a 30% chance of rain showers and a high of 67. This would not stop me from going, however I would call the track that morning. Besides, How often is the weatherman right?
As always I need to know what happened and where you plan on racing. Some of you have been extreemly helpfull and have given me exactly what I need to put this site together. I thank you for that. But keep it coming, This is how we all grow Microstocks back to what they once were.
