WFMT at Snydersville

The World Formula Microstock Tour is heading to Snydersville speedway this Friday May 14th to challenge the local hot shoes. With 2 different winners so far this year its anyone's game and the bull ring. With weather reports putting the evening temperatures in the 50's and 10-20 cars on track, there will be plenty of action.
Good luck to all the competitors. Keep an eye out for the official announcement and race times.

Microstocks return to Mahoning

This Saturday Night May 8th, Mahoning Valley Speedway will be host to the Microstocks in front of a great crowd as part of the regularly scheduled Saturday night event. This Class of Sportsman powered cars, including many having the ever favorite sedan body will hit the track for some high speed action. Topping out near 65MPH nose to tail and attracting 15-20 cars on a regular basis, they put on a show while exposing new people to the thrills and affordable fun to be had in a Microstock. Many Asphalt modified team members also get the chance to drive and to compete against the driver they help support the rest of the season.
Mahoning Valley Speedway is located in Lehighton, Pennsylvania a short drive from New Jersey.

Microstocks are scheduled along with the regular Saturday night line up for the following dates,

May 8th
June 19th
July 31st
August 21st
And
September 18th

The Micro Stocks made their first appearance of the season and in it was a very competitive event. Pete Bayles led early but on lap six DJ Wagner reeled him and two laps later made the pass for the lead.

However, Wagner would only enjoy one lap out front as he and Bayles got their bumpers locked and had to stop in order to undo the issue.

Bob Wagner of Rockaway, NJ, then assumed the point and held off Roger Snyder en route to his third Mahoning win.

Wayne Krenn and Bob Wagner earned heat verdicts.

Modified Outlaw Micro Stocks at Wall Stadium

Ervin Scores 3rd Straight M.O.M. Victory

Wall Township, N.J. – Defending Modified Outlaw Micro Stock Champion “Uncle” Nick Cottone led the field to the green flag by virtue of a dominating last to first run in his heat race. At the start Cottone out dragged Tom Ervin to take the early lead going into turn one. Ervin attempted a crossover move to pass Cottone on the inside coming off of turn two, but Cottone got a good run off of the corner and pulled away by several car lengths. Ervin was able to make ground on Cottone in the corners, but Cottone continued to dominate the second half of the straights. Ervin eventually managed to close the gap, and a fierce battle began between the two with Ervin trying Cottone on both sides but unable to complete a pass.

Shortly after the halfway point Cottone got loose coming off of turn four. Ervin made contact with Cottone, sending Cottone spinning. Ervin was put to the rear for rough riding, handing the lead to Dennis Hiddemen with Joe Spiegel restarting in second. On the restart Hiddemen jumped out to a several car lead while Cottone and Ervin charged back towards the front. Ervin got to Hiddemen first and took the lead for the first time in the feature event with Cottone closing quickly. Once Cottone cleared Hiddemen he proceeded to run down Ervin, but was unable to make the pass. On the final lap Cottone got to the inside of Ervin entering turn one but Ervin got a good run off of turn two to hold off Cottone. Entering turn three Cottone again got his nose inside of Ervin, but Ervin was able to beat him to the line to claim his third straight win of the season. Hiddemen rounded out the top three.

Returning to action for the first time this season was Dennis Hiddemen in his #6. Hiddemen worked with his car all day, getting faster every time he hit the track.

The #99 K&K Express driven to victory by Ervin is sponsored by K&K Industries of Ewing Twp., NJ, Al’s Sunoco of Pennington, NJ, and Trenton Hot Rod Shop of Trenton, NJ.

The Modified Outlaw Micro Stocks will return to action on Sunday, May 23rd at Wall Stadium. The Modified Outlaw Micro Stocks may also compete on May 16th. Sportsman Action at Mahoning

Microstocks return to Mahoning for Saturday night races!
With some of the largest Microstock fields in years the sportsman's put on one heck of a show. Entertaining the Asphalt Modified fans and introducing them to Microstocks at Mahoning Speedway in Lehigh Valley PA.
They are regularly scheduled to race Saturday nights! This is big time exposure and was much needed within the Microstock world.

SFI de-certification of Impact products

From what I am reading it appears that the SFI foundation has posted a “Cease and Desist” letter against Impact Racing. SFI is demanding that Impact recall and refund all customers who have the products affected by the claim. On further reading SFI claims this is in line with maintaining safety and the intent of the SFI Foundation. However, In My Opinion, this is about money. On the other hand, if Impact has gone and outsourced the SFI tags as claimed by SFI them selves. Although its capitalism at its best, it could be a poor business practice by Impact if they installed counterfeit tags as claimed by SFI and then did not pay for the licensing for such tags. No matter what the outcome, the end result will be hardships on the racers and racing community caused by either deceptive business practices on the part of Impact or of suspicions on the part of SFI.

Shame on Impact if SFI’s claims are true.

March 30th Update

Impact racing has a new post regarding the issue, Their lawyers have filed an appeal and there is a hearing in court on April 1st. They have made no claims to the maker of the tags but claim that they have full certification.

Lets all hope this gets resolved quickly.

OK.. so the Micostock News Wire has been neglected for some time. I am quite sorry, I had a few things going on. I got rid of an "albatross" around my neck, sold my house and moved to a much better place, At work a corporate takeover has jumbled things around restricting access to blogging accounts then a computer crash. Needless to say I had a few things going on. However, life is settling down, everything is back on track and its time to start this bad boy up again.

News From Weinacker Motorsports
the 24x has been stripped down, frame sandblasted and re painted. New Body panels and the new number are in and the rebirth in to the number 42X will happen soon.

The 10 car has goten a new front bumper, axle and real king pins along with brass sleeves in the spindles.

The 94 got a full going over with new bearings, belts and a WF motor that has a working compression release.

The 12a is currently torn down to nothing and being changed in to a sidewinder.

On a side note, The MRL Rule book will be updated with this years date on the front and no other changes unless someone can provide the WKA WF stock rules.

We are planning on coming back to Wall this year and being competitive with all 4 cars. Many many issues were found, resolved, repaired, rebuilt and or replaced.

Ervin Wins One for M.O.M.
WALL TOWNSHIP, NJ – Ewing Township, NJ Driver Tom Ervin claimed his second victory of the season on Sunday by winning the Mothers Day Modified Outlaw Micro Stock feature event at Wall Stadium. The road to victory lane was not an easy one, however, as he and Nick Cottone in the #5 dueled all day for the top spot. In their heat race Ervin in the K&K #99 and Cottone started side by side in the last row. Charging to the front, the pair swapped the lead several times before Ervin grabbed the spot.

In the feature event the two continued their duel where they had left off earlier. Ervin jumped out to an early lead at the start with Cottone close behind. Contact between the #6 of Dennis Hiddemen and the #93 of Billy Kriegner Jr. ended Kriegner’s day on lap 2. On the restart Ervin again got out to a good start while Cottone gave chase. On lap 7 Dennis Hiddemen, who had worked his way up to 3rd spun without bringing out a caution bringing John Kazmierski and Andy Hiddemen up to 3rd and 4th. The next lap Cottone caught Ervin and tried a diving pass going into turn one. Ervin retaliated by re-taking the position through turn 2. On the 10th lap Andy Hiddemen moved past Kazmierski to claim 3rd. Lap 12 turned eventful as Cottone again tried a diving pass on Ervin. This time contact between the two saw Cottone spin but recover to maintain 2nd position on the track. The running order remained unchanged for the remainder of the event, with Ervin prevailing. The top 5 at the finish were Ervin, Cottone, A. Hiddemen, Kazmierski, & D. Hiddemen.

The Modified Outlaw Micro Stocks will return to Wall Stadium on Sunday, May 17th for their third race of the season. There is no club fee to race with M.O.M., and all Modified Micro Stock drivers are welcome to compete.

It seems that just a few days ago no one was ready to race and there was no place to go. But here we are with This Fridays racing a Snydersville with sunny skies and lows around 40 it should prove to be a great night. Anyone going to Snydersville Friday night might also considering the WFMT's opening date at OVRP. Just swap over to hard tires and change the driver from an 11 to a 14 and you'll be close. OVRP looks like they will have low 60's and sunny skied as well. And for all the Asphalt guys Wall is open too on Sunday the 19th. So once again there is no reason to leave those cars in the garage to gather dust. Set em up, load em up and get out there. Lets Race!

Wall Sunday Series Opens for Practice

What a day! 5 controlled /WF powered cars were there along with 3 Modified MOM microstocks. The show was run somewhat informal but well done. Everyone was happy to be fine tuning setups on the track that was and now is again. Johnny O’s was open and the burgers were perfect. Only a few clouds in the sky with a light breeze by the end of the day where it easily topped 70 degrees. Again, what a perfect day for racing! In fact it was the perfect day to try a TQ as well. Thanks to the “Green Flag Driving Experience” and the couple cars we had the opportunity to take 10 laps in a car that’s a whole lot different than a microstock but bred from the same mystical track of the past. Pinebrook! Growing up going to the Friday night races all summer and then seeing the opportunity to try one. I had to jump at the chance. What a ride! What a ride! I am doing that every Sunday! Next up. Opening day for Wall on April 19th. Get those cars ready, I don’t know where ever they were again. I know there are lots of cars out there. Many of the are ready to go. Hope they come out for opening day.

The Weather looks good, The extra week allowed more cars to be ready, and people are juggling their schedules to make the track. Last weekend Snydersville was supposed to have opening day but I have heard nothing. Do they have a new web site? Is there a schedule released? If anyone has it, I will post it. Is Snydersville running this weekend? Again it looks like good weather.

Wall is going to be open as well, With a few good dry days prior to the gates opening, many are excited about getting on track again. From veterans to rookies, we will be there shaking down the cars and fine tuning for opening day. Who else is going to show? Lets get those cars out on track and show support for Wall.

As the cold grip of winter attempts to throttle springs charge to the front, thoughts of opening day fill the minds of racers everywhere. Microstock Drivers from Jr Sportsman to the always fast Modified Outlaw Microstocks are busy tinkering in their garages, Checking the rule books and inspecting the belt dates making sure every last item is checked off the winter work list.

Things will kick off with the Swap Meet at Wall Township and Sunday Series Promotional day on Saturday the 14th of March. This will be followed by the first practice day on March 29th. A second practice day on April 5th. Then the first race on April 19th.

Snydersville's Opening day will be on March 28th and is sure to attract many racers as well to "shake down" their cars and karts. The full season schedule should be available soon.

The World Formula Microstock Tour schedule is up and they will kick off their season on April 18th at OVRP.

Can you feel the building excitement? Its coming, that waving green flag for the first lap of the first race of the season will be here before you know it. If your not ready, your running out of time.

Finalized 2009 WFMT Schedule

Here is the finalized 2009 WFMT schedule. If you picked up a schedule at Motorsports, it's pretty much the same schedule (the tentative dates are now confirmed) The only date that has changed is for Novemberfest, which will be the weekend of October 23-25, with a raindate of the following weekend. All races dates are Saturdays and all holiday weekends with the exception of Labor day - Summer Spectacular) have been left open. There is still the possibility of an open show if something can be worked out.

We're also currently working on getting the website back up and running.

Snydersville Rules Meeting

Just heard that Snydersville is having their Rules meeting on March 1st, 1pm. More details to come as soon as I know them. If anyone out there has better info, please let me know. Supposedly its the Firehouse or Ambulance building on 611.

So clear your schedules if you plan on running Snydersville at all this year.

Just as an FYI. I hope we can get the WF motor accepted as a competitor to the C/S class in Microstocks and to have Snydersville accept the seal used by WFMT as a "teched" Item. This will open the door for more competitors to run more places with the WF motor and be 100% legal without aditional expenses.

On a side note, Over the weekend we attempted to fit a WF motor in to the 12a. The Air Filter will be completly hanging over the rear bumper. The use of an Animal intake would solve this but would make the combination illigal for the WFMT series. IMO if we allow the stock Animal intake at Wall and Snydersville (Not an aftermarket Billet shorty or extra long..STOCK ONLY) we will make the addition of the WF motor to all the older rear engine cars much easier for everyone involved.
But we must ensure that each competitor realizes this would have to be swapped back to run a WFMT race.

Winter Whats Up?

There have been some interesting events since my last post here.
Between my company being bought out, my insanely busy work schedule, the purchase of 2 more cars and a champ car for the kids. The listing of my home for sale and the fantastic action giving me the feeling that moving day will be soon to a place where I can build a proper work shop. Lets not forget the freshening of motors, the installation of WF motors. The uncertainly of how a sealed WF motor will be accepted during Tech at non WFMT events. Wall claiming they are running a Sunday series but the site is not up yet. Word about new promoters at Poughkeepsie, Unknown rules meeting date for Snydersville. The crumbling economy and 3 race dates in front of a real crowd at Mahoning, Well, there's a lot to consider with little reliable information. So I figured I would post what I know and links to where the info should pop up eventually.

Sportsman 25 lap feature went to Brian Correll in the #4 followed by Ted Harris and Jim Ackerman.

The Controlled Stock feature was taken by Jeff Weinacker in the 24X followed by Harry Ladleee in the 10, Carl Weinacker in the 94, Garry Scheffen in the 12A, Mysti Gargone in the 6-18 and Teri Morrison in the 04. Walt Morrison was also in attendance with the #6 modified showing the controlled stock bunch how to negotiate the turns.

What a showing for Microstocks! M.O.M. rolled in to town for their 25 lap makeup feature. The Controlled Stocks had their makeup feature and a good contingent of Sportsman were on had as well bringing the total car count to 20. In the Modified feature Walt Morrison took second spoiling the Team Total Clean sweep of the top spots with Brian Braddock in first and Carl Sheier in third followed by Uncle Nick taking 4th. In the controlled feature everyone had troubles getting traction the slick track, everyone except for the 1 car of Chris Connor who came home in first place followed by the 24x (later Disqualified) and the 57 of Ted Harris who was later awarded 2nd. Final controlled stock finishing order was 1, 57, 04, 6-18, 94, 12a, 10, 24x(DQ'd)
In the Sportsman Feature Jim Ackerman won over Brian Correl With Nascar's Camping World Series driver James Prithcard coming in 3rd. The Jr Sportsman Division went to Russ Benke in the 47 over Joe Prithcard in a close second.

In the world of Microstocks we have a few important events coming to consider. First up is Snydersville Speedways 25 lap Controlled Stock feature. After 2 Rained out Fridays and clear skies in the forecast for this Friday, both invaders and locals have severe cases of "itchy throttle feet". With at least 4 regulars and 4 invaders known to be planning on racing we are looking at a full field. Who else will show up and throw their helmet in the ring? On a second note, Will there be a Microstock Modified make up date too?

Following this weekends events the World Formula tour will be rolling in to Poughkeepsie's ultra fast paved 1/5th mile oval on the 12th of October. With a tight points race the championship is up in the air. Will Kenny Lund bounce back from a broken tow vehicle? Will Don Boonstra prevail? Will the "New Kid" sweep the series? Or will an Asphalt stand out prevail? There is only one way to find out.

Boonstra Ends 20 Year Drought

The World Formula Modified Tour rolled into Shellhammers for their last visit of 2008 this past Saturday night with Don Boonstra from Bloomingdale,NJ garnering his first World Formula win ever and his first since 1988 at “The Home of Champions, Pinebrook Speedway.
Boonstra in the #55 “BakeMark Bullet” was recipient of the pole position for the 20 lap feature by virtue of his Heat race win earlier in the evening. Boonstra was the pole sitter but Adam Kievit in the #46 got the early jump and fell into first off the line. It took the #55 machine 3 laps to make a low-groove move in turn 1 to take the lead that he never gave up. While Boonstra was stretching his lead Kievit and Roberto Gonzales in the #4 battled it out for second. Gonzales was able to take over 2nd when the #46 came down with a soft rear tire.
WFT Notes: The first place finish vaults Boonstra into the 2008 points lead setting up an interesting battle between himself, Kenny Lund and Roberto Gonzalez for the Championship. This battle should continue until the final race at Oakland Valleys’ Novermberfest Race. Lund had an unfortunate bad turn of events when his tow vehicle took sick on the way to the track. Look for an all out effort by Lund in the #17 Phenomenon Designs to recapture the point lead. The win by Boonstra makes for the sixth different car that has crossed the finish line first for the WFT this year.
The next race for the Tour is at Poughkeepsie Speedway on October 12th for the “Empire State 50”.

There is driver registration also on Friday-gates open at 5:00 PM, and registration is until 10:00PM, but if you are just going on Saturday and haven't pre-registered, you MUST get there by 9:00AM. Behind the Scenes at Oakland Valley

The season finale brought out the true meaning of "Brothers in the Pits". A field of 12 cars showed up, including Jeannie Hiddeman, Walt and Teri Morrison, Harry Ladlee, and Richie Price. Walt and Harry both had new Modified motors and it looked like a swarm of bees as everyone ran back and forth helping each other. Parts and tires were passing from crew to crew, as working out the bugs was the order of the day.

Three quarters of the K&K Team were on vacation, so, Tom Ervin loaded the 99 car into his newly painted El Camino and showed up with no help. As luck would have it, the motor on the 99 car had a problem and Tommy missed two practices and the first heat. Fortunately, he had a spare motor and made it out for the second heat. Tom's bad luck wasn't over, as there was a wreck which he couldn't avoid and the 99 limped off the track with a busted right rear wheel and a bent axle. In the true spirit of M.O.M., Andy Hiddeman and Carl Scheier ran to Tommy to offer help, but it was Uncle Nick's big hammer that saved the day for the 99. Tommy beat on that axle til we thought the hammer would break and he made it out for the feature. The big hammer also straightened out the 8 car of Jeannie Hiddeman.

Uncle Nick started on the pole by virtue of winning both heats, but it was Andy Hiddeman, passing the 5 car on the outside going into turn 1, who led the first lap. Nick made an inside pass to take over the lead for a few laps before turning it sideways to avoid a lapped car. The hole on the bottom was there and who should fill it, but Tom Ervin in the 99. Nick pressed him hard knowing that the 99 was bent up and the pressure forced Tommy into the marbles. Nick regained the lead again, followed by Brian Braddock in Carl Scheier's 82 car. Top three across the line were Uncle Nick, Brian and Tommy who came from the rear.

The night's theme was "never give up" as Andy Hiddeman had a great run in spite of losing his neck brace which left him in great pain by the last lap. Harry Ladlee worked his tail off changing tires and a broken carb to put on a solid run against the M.O.M. regulars.

There would have been no "show" at all if not for Jim Van Dine's gal, Lisa and Judy Cottone who helped Carl start 12 cars.

All in all, a great night for the Modified Outlaw Microstocks, Brothers and Sisters All !

Cuddebackville, NY - Saturday, August 23rd the Modified Outlaw Micro Stocks (M.O.M.) closed out their 2008 points season at The Dirt Oval at Oakland Valley Raceway Park. The group had competed at Oakland Valley once earlier this season with Tom’s River NJ driver “Uncle” Nick Cottone dominating the day to win on his 71st birthday. Cottone was the favorite to win again and he didn’t disappoint, winning both heat races to put his self owned #5 on the pole for the start of the feature. Flanking Cottone for the start was Andy Hiddemen, who was having his best night of the 2008 season.

At the start Hiddemen got a nose out ahead of Cottone, and the duo ran that way for two laps with Hiddemen scored as the leader. Cottone used the inside groove to eventually claim the lead, followed by Hiddemen and Brian Braddock. The action slowed briefly for a lap six caution, but all cars were able to continue. Tom Ervin, who had started in tenth position re-started in fourth and took advantage of the opportunity by moving into 2nd behind Cottone. Braddock also used the re-start to get by Hiddemen for third, and the top four began to pull away from the rest of the field.

At the half-way mark Cottone had trouble with lapped traffic, opening the door for Ervin to take the lead. On three laps later Cottone managed to get the nose of his #5 under Ervin and the two raced side-by-side into turn three. Both cars drifted up the track in the middle of the turn, and Cottone re-took the lead from Ervin with Braddock following him through to claim second. The very next lap Harry Ladlee Sr. took fifth position from Jim VanDine. Cottone stretched out the lead to the checkers for his second win of the 2008 season, followed by Braddock, Ervin, Hiddemen, and Ladlee. Terri Morrison crossed the line in 10th position overall in her first visit to the track but was awarded the Controll ed Sto ck win as the highest finisher running a Controlled Stock engine against the Modifieds.

Finishing order – Cottone, Braddock, Ervin, A. Hiddemen, Ladlee, VanDine, Dennis Hiddemen, Walt Morrison, Jean Hiddemen, Terri Morrison, Richie Price

This ended the 2008 points season for the Modified Outlaw Micro Stocks. The unofficial results have Tom Ervin first in points with 4 feature wins, Brian Braddock in second with 1 feature event win, and Dennis Hiddemen in third.

While the regular season is over for the 2008 season, M.O.M. participants plan to compete in the annual “Money Race” at Snydersville Speedway on September 12th.

WFMT - Shellhammers Summer Spectacular August 30th

Next up on the calander for the World Formula Modified Tour is the Summer Spectacular at Shellhammers Speedway on August 3oth. If you've never been to Shellhammers Speedway, this is one of most fun tracks to race a microstock at-1/8 mile high banked hard clay with a lot of bite. Lap times are typically in the low 10's, but expect to see times in the 9 second range as the track crew at Shelly's prepares a very fast track for this event. It he car count is over 15 cars, this race will be guaranteed $250 to win, otherwise it will be an 80% payback. We are also working on some extra sponsorship for this race, so the purse could be even higher! The format for this race is time trial qualifing instead of heats (3 cars on the track for 4 laps) and a 40 lap feature.
Pre-entry for this race is $30 (see entry form link below-must be recieved by Aug. 23rd) and day of the event is $40. All cars must be registered and inspected by WFMT-single race temporary reg. is $10 and full season registration is $50. With 170 laps of feature racing left this season-there still time to get out there and have some fun!!
We'd love to see some new faces at this exiciting track-will any of the Snydersville regulars make the trip down? The Mine Hill Gang? There were a lot of cars from Wall last year that haven't been seen in a while. Let dust 'em off and go racin'!!

Jim Reilly, Ron Dennis, and Brian LoPinto of the Friends of Hinchliffe Stadium Website are hosting the first Hinchliffe Stadium Racing Expo inside Hinchliffe Stadium on Sunday August 31st from 1 to 5 pm during the annual Great Falls Festival. Vintage and modern race cars alike will be on display at the show in the stadium that last hosted midget and stock car races in 1952. The show is a coordinated effort between the Friends of Hinchliffe Stadium, Paterson Mayor Jose ”Joey” Torres, Carmine “Butch” DeZuzio of Dayton Auto Parts and the Paterson Town Council to revitalize the facility that has been dormant since 1997 when it was last used as the Paterson High School's Athletic Field.

LoPinto has been working diligently on the resurrection of the stadium and did the work to have the stadium declared a National Historical Site because of the rich sporting heritage of Hinchliffe Stadium.

We have a number of modern and vintage race cars so far that will be on display at the show but we have additional space to fill in the stadium. Things were relatively uneventful for the controlled stock class last night. Thankfully, a wrist-braced but happy Mystie Gargone returned with her car none the worse for wear, and went on to claim the race when her competitor Teri Morrison dnf'd due to clutch failure.

For the modified micro class, it was quite the opposite. It was a rather full field, with five showing up from Carl Schier's Modified Outlaw Micro team (Carl, Brian Braddock, Denny and Andy Hindeman,and Jimmy VanDyne), as well as a lone driver, Dave ? in the modified winged animal (champ?) class, combined with sentimental track favorite Walt Morrison. They had a lively heat race, in which 3 of the M.O.M. team tangled, resulting in one of them (Andy, the #8) being put out of commission for the night.

The ensuing feature was exciting to watch. Carl and Brian contended hotly for first, while Hindeman, Morrison and VanDyne duked it out for third. Morrison had gone as far back as fifth, when in a strikingly bold move he took third back from Hindeman, then VanDyne from the outside. Morrison went on to say how delighted he was that his self-made, no-frills stock block motor had performed so well for him, expecially since it was essentially in the "breaking-in" stage.

The M.O.M.'s will be going on the Oakland Valley in Cuddebackville, NY on August 23rd, and invite all modified micros to compete, as well as the controlled microstock class. In addition, they look forward to keeping the track at Snydersville on their regular agenda.

St. Johns, PA – Sunday the Modified Outlaw Micro Stocks (M.O.M.) dodged raindrops to get in their fifth and final appearance of the season at Mountain Speedway. Bill Kriegner Jr. led the field to the green, but was quickly overhauled by a tight running trio. John Kazmierski took the early lead and soon had Tom Ervin challenging on the outside. As the two ran side-by-side for the lead Bill Kriegner Sr. moved into third but was unable to pass while the battle for first continued. After several laps of this Ervin finally took the top spot, allowing Kriegner Sr. to challenge Kazmierski for second successfully. Kriegner Sr. gave chase to Ervin with Kazmierski close behind. A late race caution regrouped the field, and at the re-start it was Kriegner Sr. challenging Ervin for the lead. Ervin prevailed to win his fourth Mountain Speedway victory of the season, followed closely by Kriegner Sr. and Kazmierski.

The Modified Outlaw Micro Stocks will finish out their 2008 season on August 23rd at Oakland Valley Raceway in Cuddebackville, NY. There is no club fee to participate in M.O.M. events, and all Modified and Controlled Stock competitors are welcome to compete.

M.O.M. at Mountain Speedway Sunday August 10th

The Modified Outlaw Micro Stocks (M.O.M.) will return to Mountain Speedway this Sunday, August 10th for the fifth and final time this season. Pits Open 11:00 am, Grandstands Open 12:00 pm, Practice 12:30 pm, & Heats 2:00 pm. Mountain Speedway has again requested that all Micro Stocks run Transponders for this race. (Transponders may be rented at the pit shack when registering for the class.)

In the April 19th M.O.M. season opener at Mountain Speedway Tom Ervin pulled off a last-to first victory. On May 11th Brian Braddock answered back by capitalizing on a front row draw to dominate the day. Ervin held off Denny Hiddemen in a hard fought battle to win on May 25th, and Nick Cottone won his first race of the season at Oakland Valley on July 5th. July 20th Ervin again visited victory lane at Mountain Speedway, so he will have to start in the rear of both the heat race and the feature event this time. Andy Hiddemen, John Kazmierski, Jim Van Dine, and Bill Kreigner Sr. have been among others making strong runs at Mountain Speedway this season. This will be their last chance at Mountain Speedway's Victory Lane, so it will be interesting to see who steps up. Can Denny Hiddemen break his second place jinx to finally grab a win at Mountain, or will someone else grab the gold? One way to find out is to be there!

Sundays race is again open to all Modified Micro Stocks and Controlled Stock Micro Stocks. There is no club fee to race with M.O.M. Come out and join the fun!

Friday Night at the Races

Snydersville's Friday night (8/1) attendance was light (perhaps due to the heat?) The controlled micros had some spirited racing nonetheless. Participating were the usual players: Harry Ladlee Sr., Lee Anne Tonkin, Mystie Gargone and Teri Morrison, accompanied by the lone micro-modified, Walter Morrison. The heat was relatively uneventful; the real action took place in our feature, which started off with Ladlee on the pole, Tonkin dropping out due to equipment failure, Gargone taking a spin and hitting the wall, and Teri ending up 2nd to Ladlee. Walt, of course, swept his class.

Gargone reported that she had snapped a tie-rod (hence the crash), and that though she left the track in a sling expects to be back next week. We are all glad she wasn't injured enough to interrupt what has been an exciting season for her thus far.

We are anticipating some more action next week with a impending visit from M.O.M., a superior group of racers that always gives a much-welcome challenge for the Snydersville regulars. Should be a great show!

The mighty World Formula Modified Tour invaded central Pa. this weekend
for the "BakeMark Classic" . The two day event sponsored by
BakeMark ingredients supply company offered the chance for a driver to collect
$175.00 for a 2 feature win.
Friday night's race event at Selingsgrove Raceway Park saw the mighty
Micros doing battle in the scheduled 25 lap feature and with George Bark driving
the Kievit owned #46,the outside pole was all he needed. Right from the green
flag Bark jumped out to an early lead and was not to be challenged for the
remaining laps. The battle for second was where the challenge ensued. Pole
sitter, Kenny Lund in the Phenomenon Designs #17 was able to drop into second
after the quick start of Bark. Heat winner, Don Boonstra started in third in the
#55 for the feature after pulling the #3 chip to invert the top 3 heat
finishers. For the first 6 laps Boonstra and Lund battled it out, with Lund
being challenged in turn 3 repeatedly. Boonstra, after many attempts to pass
received his chance when the #17 of Lund bobbled a bit in turn 3 giving the #55
car just enough room to pass and finish second for the event. Rookie of the year
contender, Roberto Gonzales came home in fouth.

Feature Finish top 4: BARK, Boonstra, Lund, Gonzales

Night 2 brought the World Formula Tour to the "Action" track of Greenwood Valley. This 25 lap event was not decided to the last lap where the finish order changed considerably. The race was set up to be a dramatic one when the Bark #46 was awarded the pole position from his earlier heat victory and the 1K of Tommy Kosch was sitting on the outside pole. The two drivers did not disappoint the crowd by putting on a side by side race for most of the event. Bark led the entire race until a dramatic pass by Kosch in the final lap made the 1K a winner for the 3rd time on
dirt this year. The other late change in finishing order occurred in the three
and four positions where Boonstra and Lund continued their battle from the
previous night. In this event it was Lund in the #17 who made the pass on lap 24
by getting under the #55 of Boonstra and holding on for 3rd across the line.

Feature Finish top 5: KOSCH, Bark, Lund, Boonstra, Gonzales

In the final rundown of the "Bakemark Classic" George Bark Jr.
was crowned the winner on the strength of a 1st and 2nd place finsh. Don
Boonstra and Kenny Lund tied for second after both drivers finished in front of
each other each night. Roberto Gonzales was third.

You will recall that I'm competing against the controlled stock micros there. Friday night's racing was particularly rewarding, since our regular group of racers was greatly enhanced by the return of some very special players: the Sandts (both Bob Sr. and Jr.) and Brian Russell (of the Loose Nut Racing Team). Also racing were Harry Ladlee and Mystie Gargone, as well as our modified micro champion, Walter Morrison. It was a spirited race, in which there was some good-natured bumping and banging (resulting in a DNF for Ladlee due to equipment failure), and a triumph for Russell, who's been off the track for a year. Moreover, it was heart-warming to see the return of Bob Sandt Sr., who hasn't raced with the micros in several years, and his son Bob Jr., who has been racing other venues (micro-sprint at Borger's Speedway, and small block modified at New Egypt). All are gifted drivers, and it was a sincere pleasure to race with such an elite group. Just wanted you to know that things are alive and kicking at Snydersville. Hope to see more competitors come out!-

Hazelton, PA – Ewing, NJ driver Tom Ervin scored his third feature event win of the season in the Modified Outlaw Micro Stock (M.O.M.) race at Mountain Speedway on Sunday. Starting outside pole in his heat race, Ervin powered the K&K Industries/C&M Automotive Warehouse #99 around pole sitter Dennis Hiddemen to grab the lead at the start and lead every lap. Carrying that momentum into the feature Ervin led wire to wire to win by half a lap in the John Kazmierski-owned car over perennial second place finisher Dennis Hiddemen, who had his hands full fending off the race-long challenges of defending 2007 M.O.M. Champion Brian Braddock. Braddock drove to the outside of Hiddemen at the finish but came up short for third. Bill Kriegner Jr. matched his best run of the season with another fourth place finish, and John Paulsen rounded out the top five for his best run of the season.
Ervin’s win extended his lead to 60 points over Braddock with only two points races remaining on the M.O.M. Schedule. Kriegner and Paulsen tied for the hard charger award of the race with their climb from the back.

The Modified Outlaw Micro Stocks will return to Mountain Speedway on August 10th. As the most recent feature event winner, Ervin will be starting last in both his heat race and the feature event.

July 17th the K&K Race Team hauled the #90 and #99 Modified Micro Stocks to Morrisville, PA for the Deleware Valley Roadrunners Car Club Cruise Night. The #99 rode in the back of Tom Ervin's 1964 Ford Ranchero, and the #90 rode in the back of John Kazmierski's more modern Ford Pickup. All 4 vehicles got trophys! To start the night off right, the team unloaded both Modified Micro Stocks outside the show, and team drivers Bill Kriegner Jr. and Tom Ervin drove the cars through the show to thier display area. *Arnold Reilly took a massive hit in the heat race that saw the 44 coupe go head on into the wall in turn 4 and end up upside down. Arnold was shaken up and got checked over by the EMT's and, other than being sore was ok. The 44 on the other hand was heavily damaged.

When Racing Takes a Back Seat

There are times in everyones life when everything else including racing takes a back seat. This was the case for Gary Scheffen, driver of the 12a on Saturday the 12th of July. He and his wife arrived at the hospital about 9:45 am and Delilah was not far behind arriving at 10:22.

The Weekend Ahead

Snydersville Raceway will be open for business for racing under the stars this Friday the 11th of July with predicted high temperatures of 85 and evening lows of 61its gonna be another great night to go racing especially since there are no clouds predicted. Let alone precipitation.

The World Formula Microstock Tour will be rolling in to Hamlin Speedway on Saturday the 12th of July with high temperatures of 83 and evening lows of 63 and not a drop of rain predicted the track should be perfect. With the close competition in the World Formula Microstock Tour this could be anyone's race.

Cottone Wins 71st Birthday Race

Cuddebackville, NY - The man the Modified Outlaw Microstock racers call ˜Uncle Nick" Cottone won Saturday's race at Oakland Valley Race Park in Cuddebackville NY in spectacular fashion. He lapped the field in his black #5 microstock. An emotional Cottone stated, "This is like a dream come true. When I saw we had a race scheduled on my birthday, I had hopes. I thought it would be great if I could do well that day. To win on my 71st birthday, this is great!"

By virtue of strong performances in the two heat races, Cottone started on the pole in the feature and proceeded to put on a driving exhibition. Cottone's years of racing experience led him to put on a different tire setup than everyone else and that proved to be the key to victory. As the rest of the competitors slid and slipped around the track trying to find bite, Cottone's microstock was hooked up. When asked why he was so dominant this time out Cottone modestly replied "I just guessed right on the tire selection. Sometimes you get lucky." Perhaps it was luck or perhaps it was the fact that after nearly fifty years behind the wheel of a race car, its less about luck and more about being able to eyeball a track's surface and knowing what kind of setup would be good for those conditions.

Cottone started racing in Freeport Speedway in 1959. Cottone was a regular at many of the local, now shuttered tracks such as Trenton Speedway, Middletown, Harmony, Islip, Westhampton, East Windsor and Wall Township Speedway (then Wall Stadium), and once raced along side such legendary drivers such as Al Tasnady, Gil Hearne and Buzie Ruetiman.

The M.O.M. hard charger award usually goes to the driver who makes the biggest gain in position, but this race the award goes to "Uncle" Nick Cottone who lapped the field on the way to his first win of the season.

Brian Braddock kept Cottone in sight during the heat races but was unable to match his pace in the feature, finishing a distant second place in the feature. Jim VanDine struggled with an ill handling car to finish third while Tom Ervin rebounded from a heat race crash to finish fourth in the feature. Dirt track specialist Walt Morrison rounded out the top five. Harry Ladlee Sr finished seventh overall but claimed the controlled stock division win as the highest finishing controlled stock entry.

Brian Braddock earned enough points in this race to pass Ervin for the M.O.M. points lead.

Finishing order: Nick Cottone, Brian Braddock, Jim VanDine, Tom Ervin, Walt Morrison, Bill Kriegner Jr, Harry Ladlee Sr.

The Modified Outlaw Micro Stocks will next compete at Mountain Speedway on July 20. There is no club fee to participate in M.O.M. events, and all Modified and Controlled Stock Micro Stock drivers are welcome to compete.

Poughkeepsie, NY: The World Formula Modified Tour rolled into Poughkeepsie Speedway Saturday night showing their versatility by switching from dirt to pavement with its largest turnout of cars to date. The 60 of Mike Andrews from Tinton Falls, NJ came from the second starting position to garner his first World Formula Modified Tour victory in the 30 lap feature. Reigning points leader, Jim Scherer led the 10 car field to the green and took the early lead followed by Andrews, but pulled off on lap 15 with a flat rear tire. From there Andrews led the remaining 15 laps with Don Boonstra’s 55 in tow. A torrid 3 car battle for second took place between Boonstra, the returning Arnold Reilly and Kenny Lund for most of the race, with Reilly and Lund getting by Boonstra on lap 24 to finish second and third. Carl Weinacker was able to get by Boonstra for forth after the handle went away from a wheel moving in on the axle.

Notables: Making their first starts of the season were Arnold Reilly in the 44 Tasnady replica coupe, tour regular Adam Kievit in the 46, AMSRA alumni, Bernie Barker in Gary Sheffan's 12A and Kevin Pross in Jeff Miller's 8W. The NESMRA microstocks ran their event combined with the World Formula Modified Tour with Rick Mollo taking the win. Doug Coy's #10 failed to start the feature.

The WFMT will be at Hamlin Speedway this coming Saturday, July 12th.

In a side note, Doug Coy and Rich Mollow of NEMSRA were in attendance bringing the Microstock count to 12 cars. Unfortunately a sheared flywheel key sidelined the 10 car. However the 23 of Rich Mollow proved to be a tough customer taking the heat win by a few feet. Rich started on pole for the feature followed closely by Jim Scherer. Rich went on to win but not by a landslide proving the NEMSRA cars with the Tecumseh Star motor are pretty competitive with the Controlled Stock and World Formula packages.

Weekend Race Schedules and Weather

Friday July 4th Snydersville once again opens its doors for more great racing action. With Fridays high temperatures predicted at 76 and the low of 58, Although thunder storms and light showers may be in the area the chances of a sprinkling is set at 50%.It seems like the perfect evening to go racing even if you got to duck in to the trailer to wait out a quick storm.

Saturday the 5th of July has 2 races on tap. M.O.M. will be running the 1/5th mile oval at OVRP and The World Formula Microstock Tour is rolling in to the fast asphalt 1/5th mile track at Poughkeepsie. Both gates open at 2 PM. OVRP's weather forecast calls for a high tempreture of 72 and a low of 63 and a 60% chance of thunderstorms. While Poughkeepsie's forecast calls for a high tempreture of 76 and low of 58 also with a 50% chance of thunderstorms.

With high car counts expected everywhere, come on out and hit two tracks if you can. Just bring that pop tent and some extra weights to hold it down.

NEMSRA Action

It was Doug Coy and Rich Mollow to kick off the NEMSRA season with Rich drawing the pole for the heat race. Doug took the lead on the start with Mollow on his back bumper waiting for the 10 to make a mistake. It only took 4 laps until Mollow was able to get by coming off of turn 4 as the 10 got real loose and had to chase the car up the track.

In the feature Mollow again started on the Pole but the 10 took the lead on the start with the 23 on his back bumper. The 10 held the lead for 6 laps until he again got out of shape coming off of turn 4 and Rich was able to get by. He then was able to pull away as the 10 continued to battle a very loose handling car.

The NEMSRA guys will be back in action on July 5th when they welcome the World Formula Microstock Tour of the New Jersey invaders. Will any Pennsylvania drivers show to give them all a run for the money?

M.O.M. at OVRP July 5th

The Modified Outlaw Micro Stocks will be making their first appearance of the season on dirt at Oakland Valley Raceway in Cuddebackville, NY this Saturday July 5th. Last year M.O.M.'s only race at Oakland Valley Raceway was won by Brian Braddock, with heat race wins going to Tom Ervin and Jim Van Dine. This season the race is up for grabs. As the most recent M.O.M. race winner Ervin will be starting at the rear, while Braddock will be looking to claim his second win of the season. Dennis and Andy Hiddemen and Nick Cottone have been very strong this season on asphalt, and Hiddemen is looking to break his streak of finishing second every race this year by bringing home the trophy. Bill Kriegner Jr. learned to race on dirt with a quarter midget and is looking forward to a chance to take his #16 off of the asphalt. Who will win? Come on out and see!

As M.O.M. has done all season, they are welcoming all Modified and Controlled Stock drivers to participate. You do not have to be a M.O.M. member to compete, and there is no membership fee to run with M.O.M.

The Forecast calls for lows of 65 degrees and only a 20% chance of thunderstorms later in the evening.Saturday OVRP and Poughkeepsie are running with high temperatures expected to be 81 at OVRP and 90 at Poughkeepsie with lows around 65. The chance of rain showers after 8 PM exists for Kipsie while OVRP escapes with only Thunderstorm watches.

June 21st the K&K Race Team hauled the #90 and #99 Modified Micro Stocks to New Egypt Speedway as part of the C&M Automotive Warehouse Night At The Races. C&M held a picnic just outside Victory Lane where K&K Team Drivers Tom Ervin and Bill Kriegner Jr. spent most of the evening meeting with interested race fans.

Victory Lane at New Egypt Speedway is at the north end of the grand stands, so the cars were accessable to the race fans in attendance. The C&M Picnic had 100 registered guests, and the crowd around the cars included fans from the stands and drivers from the pits. We even had visits from three former Micro Stock racers.

Since the #99 was all cleaned up and sporting a show body, Tom hauled it the next day to the Mid Jersey Antique Automobile Club car show in Hamilton, NJ in the back of his 1964 Ranchero. Both cars drew a lot of attention at the show, and Tom handed out Micro Stock literature to interested parties. Rain interrupted the show twice, but it helped to wash away the little remaining New Egypt dust that Tom had missed.

The Modified Outlaw Micro Stocks will return to action on Saturday, July 5th on The Dirt Oval at Oakland Valley Raceway in Cuddebackville, N.Y. Come out and see the fireworks!

6 21 08 Poughkeepsie Speedway

The Track went from extremely fast to a bit slick and we had one heck of a time getting a hold of it. However, the 12a and 94 made huge strides in their setups as well as confidence. Both cars and drivers will prove to be tough competitors next time out.

3 practice sessions, multiple minor problems and a slick track kept the drivers wrenching on the cars all afternoon. Everyone was ready for the heat race where all 3 cars crossed the finish line within 10 foot of each other.

The Feature saw the 12a on pole followed by the 24x and the 94. At the drop of the green flag the group again was so close it was anyone's race. Then the 12a lost a chain giving the lead to the 24x who swapped the lead with the 94 putting crossover moves on each other for the next few laps. Then the 24x did a little lawn mowing and the 94 got away by 20 foot. The 24x was able to close the gap some but ran out of time giving the win to the 94.

Bakemark ups the ante for WFMT doubleheader

Don Boonstra, owner of the #55 World Formula Modified has announced that BakeMark USA has increased the sponsorship for the World Formula Modified Tour's big doubleheader weekend this coming July. The "BakeMark Classic" will span both nights as the tour makes innuagural stops at Selinsgrove Raceway Park and the Greenwood Valley Action Track on July 25th and July 26th respectively. In an effort to encourage participation at both races, there will be a $300 point fund for a total point accumulation for the weekend's events, paying back to 10th place. Additionally, Bakemark will also be adding $50 to the winners share at each race.

The Weekend Ahead

Good morning racers and race fans! On tap this weekend is some more great racing from a variety or top quality racing venues. (In my head I can hear the announcers Jackie Stewart and Jack Arute... can you hear them too?)

Friday night the venue is Snydersville Speedway, This great little bull ring's weather forecast is calling for a low tempreture of 54 degrees with a 20% chance of brief showers with the threat of rain ending around 5 PM. Leaving nothing to worry about other than the set up in the car and threats of the "Mine Hill Gang" rolling in to town. I wonder if those threats will ever become reality.

On Saturday we have a total of 3 tracks open for business. OVRP will be open and a few cars may be there testing. Poughkeepsie Speedway will also be open for their Night Series where the gates open at 2 PM and racing begins at 4 PM and there is Shellhammers, A fast dirt track that's due to see the World Formula Microstock Tour hit with a vengeance. With the WFMT expecting to see around 10 cars lets hope the moth-balled cars and those racing only at their local track will venture out and give it a try.

Saturdays weather is looking good with high temperatures in the high 70's to low 80 and the only threat of rain may be a passing thunderstorm late in the day or early evening. Bring the sun screen, pop up tents and a few weights just in case the Thunderstorms whip up some wind to hold the tents down.

Scherer Wins Back To Back

Poughkeepsie, NY: The World Formula Modified Tour, backed by Briggs & Stratton Motor sports, had another large field on hand for the tour’s 2nd race of the season. The event was held at the super fast Poughkeepsie Speedway. The 30 lap feature started hotly contested with the #17 of pole sitter Kenny Lund and 2nd place starter #94 Carl Weinnacker, with Weinnacker getting jump only be re-passed by Lund on the back straight. Lund held the lead for the first two circuits as a unbelievable battle was on hand between the 12A of Gary Scheffen, 8w of Jeff Miller and the racy 24X of Jeff Weinnacker. This is when the 4TJ of Jim Scherer went to work; starting from the 7th spot caught the trio and started picking them off one by one assuming the 2nd spot by the end of lap 4. Following

Scherer though the congestion was the heat winner, asphalt standout Mike Andrews in the #60over who had to start dead last after a complete invert of the heat finishing order.

Scherer now set his sights on leader Lund and pulled aside him on lap 5. The two ran side by side for almost two laps with Andrews now in tow. The faster Scherer stole the lead on lap 7 and Andrews followed in his wake, for a brief moment it looked like a fierce battle was going to evolve but Scherer showed his muscle and started to pull away. The extra race distance showed to be difficult as it took its toll when rookie racer Roberto Sanchez followed by Scheffen as well Miller pulled off due to mechanical difficulties. This now left Scherer a clear track to improve his lead over Andrews where by the completion of the event he was a full straight ahead claiming his 2nd victory.

The final finishing order was: Jim Scherer, Mike Andrews, Kenny Lund, Carl Weinnacker, Jeff Weinnacker, Jeff Miller, Gary Scheffen, and Roberto Sanchez

The next scheduled World Formula Modified Tour race is on June 21st at Shellhammers Speedway.

Micro Stocks at New Egypt Speedway

New Egypt, NJ - Saturday, June 21st the John Kazmierski #90 and Tom Ervin #99 Modified Micro Stocks will be on display at New Egypt Speedway as part of the C&M Automotive Warehouse Night at the Races. The K&K Industries Micro Stock Race Team competes with sponsorship from C&M Automotive Warehouse, and has already represented C&M Automotive Warehouse in victory lane twice so far this season. K&K Race Team drivers Tom Ervin and Bill Kriegner Jr. will be on hand to meet with race fans as the cars are displayed outside of Victory Lane this Saturday night at New Egypt Speedway.

It makes you wonder (if the track were a bit smoother) what Microstocks could do on the big dirt track of NES.
